ORDER CLOSED

OK here is the deal:

1. Need 84 sacks to order.
2. People would have to come and pick up their bags at the drop off location (near Syracuse, NY).
3. Payment will be done through paypal, and will be required up front, once the order is secured.
4. Individuals who do not pay within two weeks will forfeit their right to their grain purchase and will not be allowed to participate in the grain buys until further notice.

We buy directly through NCM - this means that we will get true wholesale bulk pricing!
~$30 2Row + shipping (~$4-6)
~$40 Marris Otter + shipping (~$4-6)

To see the catalog, go to:http://www.countrymaltgroup.com/download.asp?f=f6
The password is "greatmalt".

Use 4000#+ pricing

Pricing
For pricing, this is an estimate. Plan for about $4-6 per bag for shipping cost and (no tax) on your portion of the order. The prices should be pretty darn close but may vary slightly.

I will keep track and let you know roughly what you are in for $$wise.

NEW PAYMENT OPTIONS

For this buy we will be using two online payment services and will also allow mailed certified checks for payment. However, WE ARE NO LONGER USING PAYPAL FOR PAYMENTS UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTIFIED

Payment option 1 (online payment):

AMAZON- https://payments.amazon.com/sdui/sdui/personal/money.

1. Set up the payment ability on your amazon.com account (follow links instructions)
2. I will provide you my email address for payment.
3. Once you send payment PM or post on the forum to let me know how you paid.

CHASE(https://www.chase.com/online/services/quickpay.htm).

1. Set up the payment ability on your chase checking account (follow links instructions). If you don't have a chase checking account it will cost you a fee to send money.
2. I will provide you my email address for payment.
3. Once you send payment PM or post on the forum to let me know how you paid.

Payment option 2 (snail mail payment):

1. Once the order pricing is confirmed you send a certified check or money order.
2. No personal checks unless they are cleared with me - they delay the order placing by 3-5 days

Payments will be collected once we have secured 84 bags (or we decide to process an order with less). If you have any issues with the payment methods please PM me. If you do not make payment within 2 weeks from the time actual pricing is provided you forfeit your right to buy your grain and to participate in the Syracuse grain buys until further notice. Not trying to be a jerk, but seriously, if you can't make payment within 2 weeks then don't participate. It slows down the order and it is detrimental to the group.

After that, CidahMastah takes over and handles out the delivery end of things, which will be at his home address unless otherwise noted (if you know a place of business that we could have the shipment delivered to that has a loading dock PM CidahMastah). CidahMastah will keep us all updated on when it is to arrive, when you should show up to get it, and all that jazz. You, as the buyer, are responsible for picking up your grain or for making arrangements for someone else to pick up and hold your grain for you.

FOR SPLIT SACKS: Work out the details with your partners. Bring something to put your share in, weigh it out on site, and take your portion. Or, one of you picks up the whole sack and deal with the splitting on your own time. Whatever. That's your decision to make with your splitting partners.

For reference: a 5 gallon bucket, depending on the type of grain, will just about hold half of a 55 lb sack.

Thanks!

A few notes about this order:

There are a few caveats to this buy.

  • I will keep track of ordering details and payment.
  • Ordering might be delayed/postponed if I am unable to receive and process the order (winter, hectic schedule, etc.) I have a lot going on through late September and all of October (Hint - someone might need to volunteer to accept the grain to make this order go through before winter).
  • Someone can offer up support of the grain order by deciding to accept the pallet load at their house or at a business address.
  • No Briess Grain Products are available to homebrewers

Hops and DME/LME

It looks like DME and LME are available but only in 50lb DME and 60lb LME quantities.

BR-PL-D50 - Briess Light DME - 50 lbs = $98.00
BR-PL-L60 - Briess Light LME - 60 lbs = $73.00

Hops are available, however the pricing isn't that great IMO. Also, they frequently don't have hops in stock in the small bags. So you can request hops, but they might not have spot pricing and availability on them. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Hops.jpg

Depending on if people can. I can probably have this deliver yo my raceshop. I have the room, just it will be in Canandaigua. 45 min from Cidah.

I personally would be ok with that. We can always run grain back and comp gas and travel costs to the driver. Thanks for the quasi offering! that might get a bunch of rotchester people interested!

1. BZ-ARO - aromatic malt - 1/4 (CidahMastah, copyright, TwoGunz) - Needs 1
2. GW-C40 - 1/3 (copyright1997) - Needs 2
3. GW C60 - 1/3 (copyright1997) - Needs 2
4. BD-RSTB - Roasted barley 1/3 (TwoGunz) - Needs 2
5. GW-C15 - 1/3 (kzhusker 1/3, copyright1997 2/3)

I will go in on the 1/4 BZ-ARO, and 1/3 GW-C15 and 1/3 GW-C60. I would also like to do a new split on the BD-VIEN where I would go 1/3 or 1/2 (or whatever works, just want to get some to try).

45 minutes closer to Albany obviously works better than 45 minutes further away, but I'm sure something can be worked out!

Cidah, you can't get enough of this...last group buy just finished! (I was going to ask last week about the next group buy, but thought you might throw barley at me all the way to Albany!)

i might be in again for some after this weekend, my buddy wants to start all grain much more.. so ill see if he would like any at the moment.

right now i might be looking to split (rolled barley and some various other things)

and some buffalonians.....

I went to UB, so buffalonians are welcome as long as they bring some wings from duffs!

copyright - I know my wife was ready to wring my neck! I know quite a few folks missed out that pmed me so I felt bad that they missed. I mean, I am just getting little here and there stuff, I won't need MO, 2ROW, or any base malts until after the winter. I know I likely won't be able to accept this order on account of personal vacations, weddings, events etc. However if we can get a stagin floor everyone can benefit.

As for the pick up location, keep in mind that... if people are smart we can coordinate a day to send one person to grab some grain and head east or west to a pick up point. I think that coordination is well worth it in the end, and people can stock up for the winter, cause we likely won't do a buy until spring after this one!

I notified the local homebrew club about this grain buy with a possible Canandaigua pickup point. Hopefully this may spark some interest here in Rochester. If this does happen I will go for 1/3 GW-C60. Probably will also need more base malt but do not want to commit until I see where this is going.

So jhenderson, when you confirm your ability to accept the order, please let me know and we will firm it up.

If you aren't sure about your participation, please don't post a request until you are sure. suffice it to say at this point it looks like it might be Canandaigua area.

Does anyone from up north ever get in on these buys? I am in Watertown and might be interested but unless I bought a lot I don't think I save much unless I could split the cost of gas with someone to drive to Canadaigua.

Cidah shouldnt be an issue but lets see the timing of this closing vs the closing of race season for me. I dont think this one will go all that fast so we should be good.

Yeah I think this will take a bit to get going, but if jhenderson can receive we should be good to go.

So everybody feel free to place your bets and I will track. Plan on pick up with jhenderson. If we run into issues we can resolve them before we place the actual order.

btw i had a brew day from hell on sunday!

1st started to show my friend the ropes and basically guided him through the process trying to get him to do it on his own with little help... i was not paying attention so when i had him grind up the grain.. it was the bucket full of rye (and only rye, not the mixed bucket that i had waiting) sadly to my knowlege i was not paying attention and started to mash with that... once the mash time finished i was trying to sparge, and it was coming out like syrup.. trying to figure out that, i came to realized after a little investigation that is was pure rye w/ 1/2 lb of rice hulls :p in the tun. so that had gotten thrown out in the compost, it was so thick i couldnt use it (killed like 16lbs of rye, even added 4 gallons to the mash to thin it up after, and was still like syrup)

2nd broke hydrometer right after measuring the gravity of the final brew (which i missed the pts by a good 6)

3rd was cleaning out the kettle, and caught my finger on the lip where i had cut the top of the keg off, sliced the tip of my thumb a good 1/4" deep from the tip into the nail straight up and down..

that was not a good day over all... a 4 hour brew turned into a 8 hour one... with only 5.5g of denny's rye ipa

Not good man! That is why I want to get a brew single or double tier rig going. Just to simplify the day. The electric already does that quite a bit, but I would LOVE to brew inside this year in my basement.

if it makes you feel any better I screwed up the last Denny's brew as awell, though I think I fixed it. My buddy missed the FWH and I didn't notice until the next day. Basically I brewed a 1/12 batch to get that bittering in there!! We will see if it worked!

I updated. keep in mind the status will be posted and updated on post number 2

would anybody be interested in starsan splits? there are a couple listed, I was thinking about being so bold as to grabbing a gallon of the stuff in a 4 way split. 1 gallon each. However they have a smaller amount available. Just curious if anybody was interested in THAT much starsan.

Star San
(5S-STAR - 32 ounce) 32 ounce bottle $12 (48 a gallon)
(5S-STAR4) 4 x 1 gallon case $118 (29.5 a gallon)

I added it to the splits. I am not 100 percent we can get this, but I think we can. That would be $0.23 per 5g bucket use. Hard to pass up for me ;)

$29.50 for a gallon of starsan is hard to pass up. Put me down for one.

Does anyone from up north ever get in on these buys? I am in Watertown and might be interested but unless I bought a lot I don't think I save much unless I could split the cost of gas with someone to drive to Canadaigua.

BWN...I might be...I am just east of you in Evans Mills, I am not 100% ready to do all grain yet but getting closer..going to work this winter on my all electric HERMS system..I have a six tap system...and want to have better options for more types of beer...I will look at the site to see what I might be interested in and let you know.

:mug:

OK one last plug. I am looking at the PBW in a 50 lb pale: (5S-PBW50) 50 pound pail $125. That is about 13 cents an oz.

I suggest that we see if there are at least 5 people interested for 10lbs each. If more people are interested we can divide up the amount if that is ok with all the participants. i.e. 8 people interested = 50 lbs / 8 = 6.25lbs each.

I personally wouldn't want to split it down to less than 5lbs each, but would be willing to go up to 10 lbs. i.e. if you jump on the split, you must be willing to take at least 10 lbs to close the split with 5 participants.

I updated post 2
