Switched outlet for a Hot Rod heat stick

I'm looking for instructions for a switched outlet for a Brewhardware Hot Rod 1650W heat stick. I don't need to control the level of power - just need on/off and I'd rather not facilitate that by either killing the portable GFCI I plug it in to or by pulling the cord from the outlet.

I assume something similar to this but with 20amp switch/outlet and 12g wire.
