Hi,

It's been a while but I was wondering if anyone had any experience of keeping wine for extended periods in swing top bottles? I have a good few 75cl swing top bottles and was wondering if they would be of any use. They are ceramic with a rubber washer which doesn't seem to make contact with the liquid inside so I doubt there would be any taste transfer.

How long would you recommend to be the maximum time to store them in these bottles? Is there anything else I need to be wary of?

Thanks in advance

James.

I imagine they are like the ones Rogue uses for their imperial stout, in which case they store beer in them for a year or longer. I got a bottle of the 2006 mperial stout back in Oct just to give you an idea of age. Not sure how that applies to wine but they are definitely good for an extended time, might just want to replace the gasket.

I too would replace the gaskets before extended aging. They don't need any positive pressure to keep them closed (like a Soda Keg) so wine will be safe.

If you tilt the bottles, you WILL get some liquid touching the rubber. Best to keep them standing up.

When you sanitize the bottles actually submerge them (Bottle, Bail, and Ceramic Cap) into your sanitizer and give the solution AMPLE time to get all the little beasties.
GOod luck.
