Sweet Stout Won't carb

Brewed a sweet stout and have been trying to force carb for four days now at 30 psi. Beer has nice head but is gone in ten seconds and is flat tasting. You can hear and see carbonation leaving beer. All the other kegs I carbonated were done in 48 hours. Need ideas. Thanks

It maybe a strange question, but are you sure it is hooked up to a CO2 tank and not beer gas or nitrogen?

It is a new tank I got from my local beer dist. Thought it was co2 what is beer gas?

Beer gas is a mix of CO2 and nitrogen. It is used to maintain CO2 level in an already carbonated keg of beer but serve it like it is on nitrogen.

CO2 and Nitro Mix... are you using an aeration stone, cause sometimes they get screwed up and let co2 out very slowly...

Maybe this what I have. I have a tank from Air-Gas, I'll try that. I am not using an aeration stone. Is beer gas labeled differently than co2?

Defiantly, if you have another tank I would try that. Usually to carb my beers it is 36-48 hours at 30 psi so something really is wrong. I've not used beer gas before so I don't know how it's labeled compared to straight CO2.

Thanks for the tip about beer gas. Changed tanks and beer is carbonated in 36 hours. Thanks again.

What temperature are you serving it at?

Warm beer does not hold onto co2 very well.

Are you carbonating at room temp or is it in your kegerator?

Carbonating at room temp (68 degrees) at 30 psi is the same as 13 psi at 38 degrees. So 4 days may not be enough if you are carbonating beer at room temp.
