So Summersolstice was generous enough to send me a bottle of his
"After Midnight" Blackberry wine. The following are my actual, Verbatim notes as I drank the first glass.

Very prominent Oak Smell in the glass. Smells like a port that would go great with a Cigar! (after further bottle inspection...it IS a port style wine)
Looks thick and black with a beautiful Purple Edge where the light makes it’s way through.
Coates the inside of the glass very nicely.
First taste: I’m thinking…This is like a Meritage not a fruit wine. Considerably more dry than I’d expected. The oak stays in the nose, and isn’t overpowering.
Second taste: I Get the black berries, but mostly this is WAY too Complex to be a fruit wine.
The Glass: There is a nice alcohol warming, and the bitter tannin flavor hits the back and sides of the tongue in just the right amount. Just enough to dry things out after each sip, but leaves my mouth watering long after. The more I drink the more I sense the depth of the flavor profile. This is NOT What I was expecting.

Over All:
WOW. This wine came from a Discussion on HBT about Fruit Overboard Wine….I was expecting cloying…Sweet….Welch’s tasting wine. I was expecting a good, Table Wine, Perhaps something to go with a little sprite for SWMBO. Something ready for Prom.
I got Deep, Dark, Complex, medium dry, and ready for the Ball!
I am wishing I had a case of this, and I wish I had a box of Partagas #10 cigars to go with it. This is, given limited experience with homemade wine, the BEST home wine I’ve ever tasted, and within the top….50 or 75 wines I’ve had. Technically, it may suffer…somehow, but It’s like it was custom made for me. I love this wine.

Okay, SummerSolstice; you know what we want - are you willing to give us the recipe?

Congrats on what sounds like a really nice wine.
