Just got a sweet deal on organic whole leaf hops at "PieTree Orchard" in Sweden, ME. Kind lady (Stephen King's sister in law maybe?) set me up with 20oz. of Magum and Nugget. SWEET! Or rather "BITTER"!
I've really only brewed with pellets and mostly low alpha Goldings and Fuggles for my Brit ales. I do not know the AA of these specific hops. They have not had them tested. I guess I can only assume they should be fairly high in Alpha Acids if I figure ballpark range for these hops (10-13%AA maybe?)
If you did not know the exact AA of these hops how would you proceed?
I'm thinking it's time for a big American Brown with Magnum bittering and Nugget flavor and aroma additions. Sound Good?
Thanks, Dave
