Anyone in colder areas that have found some hop varieties better than others? I am gardening in Zone 2/3, although I am hoping to create a small micro climate for the hops to help them through the winter. We get extremes of up to -40F but that is not typical. We have a growing season of about 120-150 days so it is also shorter than most. Lots of sun, and not a ton of rain. Any suggestions or tips or even links to helpful resources are appreciated!

Thanks, Jenn

You could probably grow neomexicanus pretty well. Down here in the sw I find it growing at 8000+ feet msl. It grows at the bottom of small gorges and valleys where it gets a very short day of direct sun.
