Suggestions for a low IBU/low hops, on the sweet side Amber to brew

Hi, I'm a newbie! I currently have my very first brew (extract - milk stout) in secondary, and I'm already anxiously looking forward to my next brew.

Being a newbie, I'm looking for extract or partial-mash recipes/kits for an Amber brew next. I prefer high malt, low IBU/low hops, sweet'ish ales.

Anybody have any suggestions to send my way? I'm really flying blind here since I don't yet know how to interpret ingredient profiles and amounts in recipes.

Why not try a brown ale? Those can be pretty low in ibu and they have a nice chocolatey body to them.

claire - I, not unlike yourself, lean more towards beers that are balanced and sometimes even a little on the malty side. When brewing any recipe or kit, you are in control of how much hops you use and how long you boil them. This is one of the really cool things about home brewing. You can tailor anything you make to your specific taste.

I use the two tools below when I brew a batch to control the IBU's in my beer. The first tool is the IBU calculator at Brewers Friend website (see link below). The second tool, is this chart I found on the Centennial Blonde recipe from this website. I find that when I use the chart in combination with the calculator to figure out the hops schedule, my results have been exactly what I was shooting for. I think that the calculator is very easy to use, check it out.

BTW, I just bought that same AHS Broadway Amber Ale kit. I haven't made it yet but I think SWMBO and I will like it just fine when I do get around to making it.

BTW, I brewed the AHB Broadway Amber (mini-mash) two nights ago, and it smells like a winner to me!

I have not ordered from AHB, but if you want a malty, non-hoppy amber-red brew, check out their Irish Red offerings. Also Scottish ales.

Check out the pumpkin beer recipes as a lot of them use a sweet amber as a base. You can always forgo the pumpkin.
