Substitute secondary fermenter - Water jug?

The 5 gallon water jugs that are returnable/reusable.
If properly sanitized, are they ok for a secondary fermenter?
First batch of cider is 2 weeks in, and my recipe says to rack to secondary for 2 more weeks....
 
Yep..that's what I use.

I tend not to sanitise them. Generally just pour a new one into the jug that I've just finished.

I figure they must ship them sanitised.
 
The only drawback is that any yeast/fruit bits tend to deposit on the 'shelf' above the handle, so you need to shake/swish them every now and again to get that off. 'Cos if you rack with that there it gets sucked into the main body of liquid.
