Long story sorta condensed.

I have some washed WL001 that is several weeks old. Last week I created a starter with it but just before pitching I swapped out the yeast to try something different. Since I didn't use the starter I put it in the fridge thinking I'd use it on my next brew.

Well, it looks like I won't be needing this for a few more weeks since some other stuff popped up. Since this is already washed and I'm not sure how much longer it will keep it occurred to me I might be able to use the next few weeks to build up the starter by regularly pitching it into a new starter solution every few days. How bad/economical of an idea is this?

Then again maybe it's not worth the effort. Should I call it a loss and dump it?

Do not dump it. Put it in an air-locked growler or something and keep it in the fridge. When you want to use it, let it warm to room temp, decant and put the slurry into a new starter a couple days beforehand. You can keep it for several weeks like this if you have it air-locked.

I have done this many times.

Thanks, will do!
