im brewing today . first time trying no sparge in my AIO.

my preboil gravity looks like its going to be 1.035. and that seems a little lower than i am used to. can i boil 90 mins instead of 60 to concentrate the wort more.

10lbs breiss 2 row
.5 lbs caramel 20
.25 carapils

and just start my hops at 60 like i had planned.

That should work - figure out the final volume that brings you in line, and boil 90, 75? Reach the volume and you're good. You can also add a little DME or LME to fix it in the mix.

yeah this worked and i ended up with 1.045 about 2 points below target. and it only cost me about a pound more of grain. prolly around 10 points effeciency or something

i didnt like how the thin the mash was and liek how a thicker mash works as a filter better. the hot break that i scooped had a lot of grainy bits in it. but it was definatley less work than pourinng cups of sparge water over the draining bed when its raised. i imagine a pump and sparge arm contraption would prolly make life easier.

i still got a very clear wort just by letting it settle a few minutes after whirpool.

After you get a few no sparge under your belt, you can see what you are averaging for efficiency and adjust recipes accordingly. Been doing no sparge brewing for about 9 years now, 3+ with an AIO. What AIO do you have, as most basket systems should keep the grain in it? With my Foundry the only time there is grain in wort is when I accidently spill a little outside of the grain basket when pouring it from a bucket.

i have a vevor. on the sister site another member stated that i should close the holes for the handle with a bolt like in this picture before doing this and thats where it leaked out of.

i could get around it by doing a very small sparge like 2 liters or something. i also noticed the grain basket is much much heavier with all the water in there then with a thick mash and less water.
