Hey,
So I asked SWMBO, what type of beer I should brew next and she said a strawberry banana one.
So this got me thinking since Hefeweizen’s are already banana flavoured what about adding strawberries to it. Any thoughts on if this would be good and how to go about doing it? I assuming just strawberries in secondary.

Cheers!

I have had issues with strawberries in the past, with no strawberry or weird off flavor.
when you think you put enough add more to secondary.
I would suggest using extract flavoring for the strawberry notes.
see what others say, im no expert
cheers

Thanks yeah I’ve definitely wonder about how much strawberries are needed to get the flavour. Never thought about using flavouring.

Would love to hear how this turns out...I had made a recipe in my Beersmith with this intent but haven't had a chance to brew it yet!

I just made a strawberry wit, but my local shop didnt have any wit yeast so I decided to go with wlp300. I definitely get banana, orange, and coriander but the strawberry comes off as under ripe and tart. With 7 lbs, I pasteurized at 140 for an hour and froze them, but still tart. I brewed it may 30th and it is now barely ready carbonated. I think I would consider extract or balancing it with some extra caramel malts. Other than that, it is a very good beer, I will enjoy it during this hot summer.

So I brewed a 5 gallon wheat. I put one gallon into a mini keg which is delicious and racked the other 4 gallons onto 6lbs of pureed strawberries. (4 lbs fresh and 2 lbs from a frozen bag) not the prettiest site fruit fermenting in beer but looking forward to trying it

high quality strawberry flavoring is so much easier... real strawberrys make such a mess.
