I'm working on setting up my kegerator, but dont' know what sort of spout to get.

I would love to dispense good stouts...My question: Can you use beer gas 20/80 co2 nitrogen combo on regular ales and lagers or would I need a sepperate co2 tank to get the beer gas specifically for the stout?

Also, do you really need the stout faucit, or can you use a regular ale/lager faucit to dispense souts?

Thanks.

You could use beer gas on beers other than stouts, but I think the creamy head would be a bit strange, to be honest.

You don't need the stout faucet if you're using beer gas, it's just a way to sort of simulate the creamy head you get with nitrogen. A normal tap will work fine.

Ok so if you use normal co2, but have a stout faucet will that make the creamy head for a stout?

yes and no.
The stout faucet in conjunction with a beer gas (N and CO2) will give you a "guinness" head and pour. The stout faucet has a restrictor plate in it that "creams" the beer as it pushed through, with beer gas you push it at a higher pressure (because the N wont dissolve into the beer and overcarbonate it) to help it froth throught eh restrictor plate.

If you want a "half Guinness" use the stout faucet with the restrictor plate in and regular CO2. If you switch over to a regular ale, take the restrictor plate out and it will pour/behave just like a standard faucet.

Sorry one more question on this....

Is it a fact that if you use a regular ale / lager faucit, but dispense an ale/lager with co/nitrogen that it will create that creamy head?

It seems to be me it shoudn't make a big difference, but I'm very new to all of this.....
