I'm new to kegging (just one batch kegged so far) and trying to get a feel for my options as I get more beer ready to keg. I am short of space in my fridge and will have another beer ready to keg soon.

Can I just transfer my beer to a keg, purge the oxygen with co2 and store at room temperature until I have room in my fridge? If so, should I try to carbonate it first or just wait until I'm ready to cool it to serving temp?

I'd hate to bottle it but can if needed. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

I would probably carbonate it since it will be sitting around. Just have a look at the carbonation chart for whatever temperature the keg will be sitting at. It will need a far higher pressure than if you were doing it at keg temps.

If possible try and get it chilled though. Beer stales quicker the higher the temperature.

I like to naturally carbonate when I won't be tapping a keg for a while. Just add sugar, seal the lid with about 30lbs CO2, purge a couple of time and let it sit at room temperature. Without oxygen in there, they keep for a long time.
 
I store my extra beer in kegs in the base4ment. Fill, purge headspace with co2, pressurize ( to seat the seals) and store in a cool, temperature stable environment. I've had kegs stored like that for several years ( Ya see I drink slooooow)
