I searched and got 15 different answers. I just wanna know if this will work if not, what will...I have room in my kegerator for 12-14 kegs. I only have 4 taps, plus 4 extra connections to carb kegs so I can have 8 on gas. My question is, can I rack to a keg.. hit it with some co2..purge...co2 purge.. then hit it with about 30 psi...unhook the gas and just stick it in the kegerator to wait its turn in the rotation? I know it won't actually carb up, but is that a safe effective way to store it until it is ready to go on gas?

Yes.

Edit: And for that matter you can stick the extra 4 on gas so they will be ready to roll each time one kicks.

thats the plan...4 on tap...4 on gas...4 in the wings....until I get the nitrogen set up... wife is saying a deck on the brew shed or 2 nitro taps and set up....decisions decisions.

Yes, they should last just fine as long as get stay at a refrigerated temperature, and maintain pressure.
Thats some setup you have! Lucky guy to have a wife that allows you to have that big of a setup!!

well it wasn't really planned. I bought a freezer off of craigslist and it happened to be that size so we just rolled with it.

youll want to purge 4 times at 15psi to get below 1% oxygen concentration, but otherwise yes it will work. when you store them, i would hit them with 30-40psi just because once it gets chilled, much of the pressure is going to be absorbed by the liquid, and normally you need some pressure to keep the lid sealed. if too much gets absorbed, the lid can start to leak, then all the CO2 will slowly escape

with proper sanitation, refrigeration isnt even necessary. as long as the kegs hold enough pressure to keep the lids sealed (and dont otherwise leak), its the same as bottling.
