Question: I used dry ale yeast on my last batch. I rehydrated it at the very beginning of my brew by mixing the yeast in with a cup of boiled water that had cooled. It just sat covered with foil for an hour, and when I went to pitch it in the wort, i noticed there was a cake of yeast on the bottom of the cup that the yeast was rehydrating in. i ended up throwing that away as I wasnt sure if I should scrap it out and mix it into the wort. should i have gotten ALL the yeast in that cup into the wort or was i right to just pitch the yeast that was mixed with the water.
i guess that brings up the related question...should i have mixed the yeast and water in the first place, or just put the yeast on top of the water to let it rehydrate, then pitched that? thanks!
