Stirplate + 1Gallon jugs?

Does this work? I can't get even my commercial stir plate to spin my stir bar, but I think that might actually be because the stir bar is too big (its huge).

Was wondering if anyone found a method to stir with these concave 1 gallon jugs...?

I just shake it up every time I walk by. It you pitch into the starter in early afternoon and shake frequently, by the time you go to bed, most of the yeast replication will be done, as it happens first. The the existing yeast will ferment the starter out overnight. Not much replication happens during the bulk of fermentation.

Replication isn't the only issue, if they are always held in vortex they are going to eat much faster, or so the experiment's hypothesis is that this is so, and thus fermentation will be faster.

The point of this is so I don't have to shake every time I walk by and it will be spinning all day. This isn't for a starter.

I use a 1 inch stir bar in my one gallon jug. Works fine, but only one of my gallon jugs has flat enough bottom to work.

I also use a 1 gallon with a curved bottom. It takes a little more precision to get it balanced on the point of the curve, but it does work.

figured it out, i have to move the magnet to the center with another magnet and carefully place it on the plate. Degassing like crazy!

I made a homemade stir plate from a computer fan. It has a small stir bar and works perfectly with those one gallon jugs pictured above. run it more slowly if you can.

That is actually what is in the wooden box... but why make one when I already have one
