I ordered a stir plate off Ebay, but it was not shipped with a stir bar. I want to brew this weekend and make a starter today, but not sure what I should pick up at the hardware store to make a stir bar? Any suggestions?

Thanks

i don't think there is anything at the hardware store you can use to make a stir bar. it's something you need to buy. if you don't have a homebrew shop nearby, try searching for "lab supplies".

It also kind of depends on what size stir bar is ideal for your specific stir plate. It should say. To long and it will get thrown to the side while spinning. 1 Inch seems to be standard. If you are a member of Amazon Prime, then it is free two day shipping. That is if you dont have a LHBS to get one from.

This is what I, too, was going to suggest.

Even if you don't have prime, you can justify the money spent on shipping (with whomever you use) if you consider the cost of your fix (time/gas/materials/etc) and the likelihood that you're probably intending to buy a few stir bars when this is over anyway.

Also, if you go to the hardware store, remember all steel is not stainless and that glass can scratch.

Best of luck!
