I was reading an article from a meed maker who said that by putting the nutrient slowly and in stages every couple weeks during the primary fermentation it will allow for less time in secondary. Basically creating a meed that can be drank quickly appose to having to sit for 12 months. Does any know if this is true or if it makes no difference? Thanks everyone.

I believe he was talking about staggered nutrient addition, which is famous for being very good for the yeast. Happy yeast will ferment faster and cleaner than stressed yeast, so it makes sense... Less off tastes to age away :)

Staggered nutrient additions, daily aeration/degassing, proper yeast selection, proper yeast pitching rates, and proper fermentation temps can all lead to a "quicker" mead.

Advanced techniques such as pH management and filtering can yield mead that's ready to drink in weeks/months instead of years.
