So I purchased my first STC-1000 thermostat to hook up to a fridge. I wired everything according to this article (http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/pimp-my-system/build-temperature-controller/) from the Homebrewers Association.

When I first plugged the unit in I tested out my heating source. According to my experiments, the heating was turned on using both outlets. This led me to believe that I didn't clip the bridge on the side of the outlet. I clipped again and think I got it cut correctly but when I put everything back together and plugged it in again, nothing...nada...not a light or anything coming on.

I checked my wiring again and everything was the same as before and nothing came unplugged.

Has anyone experienced this? Anything I might be missing? Any ideas? This is not a difficult project and I just want to finish the dang thing so any help anyone could offer would be appreciated.

I am going to disassemble and reassemble this evening and will take pictures.

Hoping that stepping away for a day and then re-doing the whole thing will help to expose my issue.

Did you wire neutral to both sides after you clipped the bridge.

Also, when you first turn it on, if it is set to cool, the built in delay timer will have to tick down before the cool side will actually "fire".

Edit
I just checked that wiring diagram. if you still have trouble,

Use this diagram. Remember to use neutral on each socket since you clipped bridge.

I wired it exactly like that first diagram. I checked that 4 or 5 times. I know there is a delay to kick on heat/cool but after clipping that bridge again, nothing turned on. The display was completely blank.

I will see if that second diagram fixes the problem.

A blank display means no power/not turned on.

In the diagram from the originally linked article, getting voltage to the controller depends on the bridge on the NEUTRAL side of the receptacle (silver screws) to be intact. This completes the neutral path from the plug to the controller. Is it possible that the bridge you cut was the neutral bridge?

The only bridge that should be cut, for heat and cool on one duplex receptacle, is the one on the HOT side of the receptacle (brass screws).

It sounds as if the hot bridge is intact (initial heat source test result of both outlets powered) and now the neutral bridge is cut (after second bridge clipping result of no power up).

If you post good photos of the build, the HBT community will likely have your problem solved fairly quickly.

Thanks to all for the willingness to help. I pulled everything apart tonight and rewired everything. Put it all back together and everything was fine.

I'm guessing something came loose when I fixed the bridge last night.
