This NOT a 'how do I wire at STC' thread.

I am building a fermkeezer and was putting together the controller last night (3 STC's, one for keezer, one each for the two ferm chambers ontop).

While doing this it occurred to me I need to extend the length of the probe which came with the STC1000. I have heard this is a thermistor probe, not a thermocouple probe. This would mean I can use any old conductor I have lying around and attach it to the current ends of the STC wire to extend the lenght, correct?

I just wanted confirmation of this from you experts.

Thanks!
Steve

The thermistor is 10k ohms and changes resistance pretty wildly in normal temp range. Extending the wire will not be a problem. My guess is that induced electrical noise from long wires will be more likely to cause issues than the minor change in resistance.

So you think I should use some shielded wire then? I guess i didn't think about noise too much. Has anyone tested/noticed this effect?

Thanks.

No, I wouldn't worry unless you are running very long lengths. Just use what you have at hand.
