I've lived in central/eastern Missouri my whole life and have always remembered seeing Stag beer. Once I was able to buy my own beer, I tried a bunch of different cheap beers, PRB, Schlitz, Hamm's, etc. and my favorite has ended up being Stag. It's a very nice, crisp, clean tasting cheap lager. Supposedly it was one of the first 'dry' beers marketed and has almost no sugar content in it. I've also found out it's hard to find. A lot of friends from out of town have never even heard of it and it seems like it's only distributed in MO and central IL. Heard it's made in Belleville, IL but the can says G. Heilman Brewing of Milwaukee. Any other places it's available? I've heard they are staring to try and push it more and have even started seeing it on tap a few places.

This thread is more or less a loving tribute to an obscure, cheapo beer. Please share any comments or memories.

Used to be a Belleville Illinois brewery but was bought out in the late seventies .... Still have a huge loyal following in the sw Illinois area and it's really cheap lol

I'm originally from Bellevegas and I love Stag. My brother just went back to visit and I made him bring me back a case. I'll be headed there and will grab another couple of cases. If you like PBR, Old Style and other you'll like Stag. Plus it's virtually sugar free and is a recommended beer for anyone that is a diabetic. It truly is a nice summer beer. Great classic advertising as well. Get in the Stag line!

I love Stag. Originally, from Belleville I've always enjoyed it. It's a very refreshing summer beer and if you like PBR or the like then you will like Stag. I just had my brother bring me back a case and I'm headed to Bellevegas in a couple weeks and will bring back a few more cases for sure. It's also very low on sugar and so it is a recommended beer for diabetics. Classic taste with great advertising. Get in the Stag line!

Owned by Pabst now- you might get in touch with them to find it.
I heard about this about a year ago. Heard they are starting to push it in other areas or expand the region. used to be you couldn't get it on tap but was told after Pabst took over, they started doing this.
