Okay, next Tuesday I'm heading to St.louis for a mini vacation! Going tuesday and wednesday. SWMBO agreed to let it be a "beercation"!!! So I'm looking for some help on where to go... I'm looking for a few breweries that may be open for midweek tours along with some awesome taphouses, brewco's and bars to check out! Anyone familiar with the area, got any ideas? We'll be staying close to downtown.

I would go on the AB tour...not going to discuss the beer but the brewery and their process is pretty impressive. I definitely advise that one.

Schlafly would be a good place to hit, their tour is a little lacking but they do have a decent restaurant/bar at their bottleworks location.

There are several other breweries in the area but I have not been to them personally. O'Fallon, 6-row, Morgan Street, Urban Chestnut, Exit 6, and Four Hands come to mind. O'Fallon has great beer, 6-row is pretty good, I do not like Four Hands, and I have not had Morgan Street, Urban Chestnut, or Exit 6 but I have heard good things about all of them.

The AB tour is very impressive to see.
Not far from the airport is Ferguson Brewing Co. - One of my favorite places to eat and drink.
Trailhead Brewing in St Charles is another good place to grab a bite
Kirkwood Station Brewing Co. is a staple for me.
I always have a nice selection of Urban Chestnut in the fridge.
Exit 6 is always a good time. Great selection of beer. Their motto is "if you've seen it in a commercial we don't serve it"

not sure about tours to any of those places but it should be listed on their websites.

enjoy your trip

I agree with gtmaus and tsl346. Ferguson Brewing has a great Pecan Brown Ale. I also have 6 taps of homebrew running. PM me if you would like to visit.

Ive been to the AB brewery a few times... and I agree that it is impressive and a very good experience! Are any of the other breweries near each other... if im walking down town are there a few places I should stop and check out?

It all depends on what you like. If you like traditionally styled beers, Urban Chestnut, Civil Life and Schlafly are the places to go. If you're more into pushing the envelope then try Perennial and 4 Hands.

Some of the posts above have mentioned O'Fallon. They do not have a tasting room and don't give tours. Don't bother going out there.

If you want to walk, you could go to Alpha Brewing, Morgan Street Brewing, Flying Saucer, the Bridge and Bailey's Range (the last three are not breweries).

The is a good resource: http://stlhops.com/st-louis-beer-guide/ although it is a little bit out of date. Alpha is not listed, but that may be because they pizzed off a lot of people in the St. Louis brewing community including the owner of the STLHops forum.
