So I'm putting the finishing touches on the new electric setup and tonight I did a test run with water to make sure no leaks and everything was working as it should. One of the big problems I ran into was the false bottom in my 10 GAL kettle (mashtun) is very slow to come out. Its hooked up to a pump thats going to recirculate through the herms coil but it doesnt have enough pressure to do so. The pump is located below so thats not the issue. The issue is the outlet for the false bottom seems to be very small. Has anyone else come across this issue?

like the dip tube opening? My blichmann dip tube is 7/16" ID and I have to throttle the recirculation port back or I would be spraying wort everywhere. I am using a center inlet chugger with a 50" Stainless herms coil.

Does the dip tube have that trub damn thing? I would suspect that before the actual tube. Although I'm not sure that is your problem.

Are you getting 0 flow out of the coil? My pump has to be fully primed (meaning 0 air between the kettle and the pump) before it will start running properly. I had to adjust my pumps a bit to get this to occur naturally without adding a bleed valve above the inlet but that could be something to consider.
