I have a spare sanke keg waiting to get cut into.
I was also thinking of buying the Concord 40 qt stock pot. I currently have an aluminum one, but it's going to be a pain to install elements from what I've read. I'd rather just get stainless so I can weld on Bobby's triclamp element mounts.

I can get the Concord 40qt for $65 shipped. (on sale for 3 more days only) OR I can cut my keg down to 10 gallons. This is for a HLT and I don't need 15 gallons. Heck I may never need 10 gallons, but it's nice to have that cushion.

Is it worth the welding cost to shrink the keg since it's free or should I just buy the stock pot then sell the keg to make up for the cost?

Extra space is ok in the boil but unnecessary for the hlt as I never go above 7.5 gallons which is a mash in for 10 gallon batch. Honestly id rather have all 40 qtd but a friend gave me his keggle and another gave me this keg

haha true but with 99.999999999% of the time, My sparge is like 2 gallons, that wouldn't even cover my sight glass fitting or the element which I'm going to add in the future

Exactly why 15 gal is good. Your future sight glass will be more useful & you'll have extra hot water for cleanup!

Oh so you're saying put a ton of water in my HLT and use it to say pump water through my pump to clean it or add Oxyclean, etc.

Normally I just heat up 5 gallons here. 60 minutes later I heat up 2-3 gallons there for sparge

No, not a ton of water (400 gal) but say an extra three-four gal. I put Sani-cleanse in my extra HLT water after chilling then run it through my pump into my BK. You can use it to help clean both.

Buy the Concord, use the keg to ferment in.

I'm not sure if the stainless in the Concord would be thick enough to weld (but I'm not a welder, nor do I pretend to be one) fittings to cleanly, but you could easily dimple and silver-solder a few ports/fittings to one.

I know a lot of folks on here like keggles, but I find pots easier to clean/deal with. YMMV.

I decided to pull the trigger on the pot. I already have the elbow and bulkhead for it, but it's also not 30 pounds like the keg!
I will either keep my keg for making into another boil kettle (BIAB perhaps?) or just sell it for the going rate on Craigslist.
