I recently bought two SS Brew Tech FTS Setups for my 14Gal Chronical, and 5 gal Brew Bucket. I've used both FTS systems each once and on one of them after use I noticed that the cake on from the fermentor was stuck on the SS Cooling coil, more so and on harder than the other, where cleaning that one was no problem

I also discovered rust.

I contacted Morebeer.com where I purchased it from and asked about the rust, and of course the warranty.

Here is my question, is the rust present because the finish on the coil was done poorly and not proper?

After sending them pictures they told me to just soak it in PBW for 15 minutes and use something abrasive.

That "this is fairly common" Is it???

That's well and good but won't this rust come back, and can it come back while in use while I'm doing a batch?

I just don't seem to remember Stainless rusting when the finish is right, I've even had stainless parts in saltwater and exposed to the sun, and not see presence of rust.

Just wondering what others have experienced and if this is no big deal

Bar keepers friend should get rid of it. I had to touch up my SS kettle. Worked just fine.

Edit: I didn't get a good look at your coil. My spot was tiny and maybe in 2-3 places. Nothing like this. Still, try BKF. Not sure what PBW would do for you. BKF will passivate it, not PBW.

Yes, I agree, it looks like a few ferrous metal surface deposits. Go ahead and give it a scrub with Bar Keepers Friend, and it should be gone, and never return. If you have any issues, please feel free to contact us directly, and we'll get you fixed up with a new coil, no questions asked.

Cheers,
Michael

This is why I use SS brew products. Great build quality and even better customer service.

Another vote for BKF. I have a (non-SSBrewTech) stainless brew kettle that developed a few rust spots. A wipe of BKF and they were gone and havent returned

Thanks everybody for the sugestions, I'll try that.

Thanks Michael, I love the SS Products, have the kettles, 2 buckets, a Conical and looking at the Brite or a Mash soon :) :)
