Okay I know I read something about this somewhere a few days ago but did not pay much attention to it since it was what I was looking for at that time. What I am wondering is if it is possible to brew up 2 same kits in an 8gal pot which would be 5 gallons then split it into 2 separate fermenting buckets and then top each off to there 5gal mark and proceed as normal. Again I know I saw this somewhere but can't really recall the answer and now am unable to find that thread through the search (probably using wrong keywords).

Sure, just split them evenly. Also, make sure everything is sanitized.

After 15 years of brewing, I've decided you can do just about anything as long as everything stays sanitized. The few bad batches I've had were never ones that I did something strange, and when I've done something out of the ordinary everything came out fine. RDWHAHB.

I figured I should be able to do it.

Oh yeah I am a sanitizing freak (work in an ER) and sanitize everything for at a minimum of 15 minutes....do I need to, probably not but it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

Actually, if you didn't split them evenly you could get one stronger brew and one weaker brew. It may be interesting to see how they come out. You'd have to figure out what the resulting gravity should be based on the split as you don't want one to be say 1.070 and the other 1.030.

whenever I split a big batch into 2 fermentors, I put a gallon or 2 in each fermentor, then do it again until they are full.

I wish I split my imperial stout I made recently....I lost nearly 1.5gallons in the primary fermentation through the blowoff hose!

Good tip, Amandabab! I'm gonna be splitting hairs - or hops - soon so I can get a handle on just what some of these different yeasts will do with various styles of beer. Your tip will help eliminate noise for sure.

Exactly what I had though I could do. Since it is going to be 2.5 gal from each kit it should work out the same as I were doing just a single batch. Thought of adding a valve to the the new brew pot I am going to use for this size batch to make it easier to get into the fermenters.
