I am thinking about splitting a boil and making an APA and IPA with the same 10 gallon batch.
The base brew would be a 1.055 OG APA with mostly late hop additions. At a60 minutes into the boil, I would drain half the wort into my HLT and cool it.
The remaining 5 gallons of wort would stay in the boil kettle for an additional 15 minutes. I would add DME and sugar to increase the gravity to 1.068. I would also add more hops to the remaining wort.
3 Questions for you experts:
1. Is there some reason this won't work?
2. How does the Pale Ale recipe look?
3. How does the IPA recipe look?
Thanks in advance for your help!
