damn. can i have mine rewelded?

just ordered 15g. anyone recommend a burner for this particular kettle? I've been looking at Bayou SQ14 but would love to hear what you guys are using

I just bought a 10 gallon with the SQ14 burner. Check out photo on the thread Kettle first test run. Very happy all the equipment purchased.

so in the comments section of my order I put "da bears" being a fan and all. the guy had the nerve to put a $@##@ packers towel in my shipment.

don't worry, next time my dog takes a big runny one i'll use it. :D

Spike, check your PM. You sent me the wrong ball valve I believe

eta Ben is really fast about replying and extremely helpful. Great stuff !

Glad we got it worked out :mug:

I just got one last week and I couldn't be happier. There was a bit of a mixup at first, but Ben was quick to send a replacement and a return shipping sheet right away. Brewing with this is a huge improvement over my older smaller kettle especially because the larger size lets me get a larger preboil volume with no boil over worries and higher efficiency overall. The different options for bulkhead placement are great too. Lovin my sightglass.

This makes me happy. Mine came cracked but looked great non the less...but im glad he made you whole. I was worried, I got mine late PST so havent heard back from them yet. Once whole I will def repost how the kettle worked for my first full boil.

Edit. Got a nice email this morning and they took full responsibility and are shipping another out Monday...so I should get it for next week (hope fed ex is early its my day off friday.) Great fast customer service...

I was looking at these, the 10 gal with sight glass - see that the thermometer and ball valve are extra.

Adding the ball valve, thermometer, and 1/2" barb connection to be the same as the $337 Bilchmann 10 gal kettle on northern brewer, the spike kettle come out only $34 cheaper.

Am I missing something? At this point I'm thinking about buying an $80 pot and install my own ball valve

Well Ben has been nothing but helpfull. I got the 10 gal 2 coupling for $170 which as mentioned before arrived with a crack. He promptly sent another one out and told me to keep the cracked one. (Try to have it welded then all I need is one more to go all grain) great customer service and 170 for a welded 10 gal was the best price I could find...add the great CS I will be getting my 3rd pot from them.

Brewed my first full boil with the spikes kettle.. worked as advertised.

Glad we got it worked out :mug:

It's cool looking through this old thread! Our kettles and welding have come such a long way. I think we can finally say that we've perfected our welds. Here's some new photos of the welds:

Much nicer! I am researching and pricing kettles and for a portion of this thread was going to check Spike off my list. Glad things are turning around and maybe later this year I will be ready to pull the trigger. on a trio of 15-20 gallon units to replace my keggles

I know this thread is about Spike's Kettles, but... I recently bought 2 of Spike's SS Conical Fermenters, and couldn't be happier with their customer service. A+ Thanks!

Just purchased my second spikes 10 gal but this one with sight glass..... please fedex dont break it

just got my kettle. One of the welds is pretty ugly hoping it doesnt leak.. will update

Well it holds hot water just fine. I will say it again. I will and have recomended spikes to friends. My friend really likes hit kettle and will be ordering a second soon

In the spectrum of welds we've seen here, that one is not ugly at all.

The inside one (1st pic left hand side of pic) had some black "crystallizing" on it. Other than that it holds water so im happy. I was comparing to my 1st kettles welds.

It looks like the bottom part of the weld had a low Argon flow. The weld should be fine as we passivate them. However if you would like an exchange or if there is ever an issue just let us know and we'll make it right!

Ill keep you informed... its my new boil kettle and my next batch will be in Sept. Im sure it will be fine and you have always been more than helpful when my last kettle arrived cracked ... thanks for the good service

These guys have been excellent to work with. Pulled a bonehead move when installing my sight glass, and snapped the top piece off inside the elbow. (no, unfortunately there had been no consumption of alcohol as yet that day, so I can't even blame that). Once I got the measurements they needed, Ben and Co. got me a new one in the mail right away (very inexpensive too...I ordered a couple extras....jus in case....lol). My Kettle was very nice when I got it, welds looked great.....I am definitely going to order another one from Spike when it's time. I cannot speak to the other companies out there, and what experiences others have had, but for me, it'll be Spike Kettles all the way....

I enjoy mine as well. I have a 15 gallon. It's definitely more oval shaped at the top than circular, but that doesn't affect anything that I care about.

Sounds like it may have been squished during shipping. Turn the kettle on its side and have the oblong sides facing up and down. Push down or sit on the top. That should round it back out. Sometimes I swear FedEx kicks or drops them out of the plane as they pass overhead :drunk:
