Anyone making their own brewed soy sauce?

seems like a fun, low investment project. any tips, tricks, etc. welcome.
 
i was thinking to use black beans, because they're pretty dope compared to soy.
 
I briefly considered making soy sauce until I read that it's a long process that emits a nasty odor.
 
Is there a recipe for making soy sauce that you are thinking of using?
I haven't come across anything defined yet. I was hoping to tap into the communal repository of the forum for process info first.
