Not much to say. I've been lurking around here for a week or so and have learned a lot and reassured myself with regards to some of the typical newbie questions. As mentioned, I'm coming to you LIVE from Little Egypt, A.K.A.: Southern Illinois. Carbondale, to be slightly less vague. I skimmed the first page of the introductions forum and didn't see any "IL"s, but I'm guessing there are a few out there. We've got a decent-to-good liquor-cum-home brew supply store, so I can't be the only one.

I (like many new converts, I'm sure) got some brewing equipment over the holidays and have my first batch, a BrewFerm framboise kit my wife included with the gift, nearing the end of the primary fermentation. She really enjoys framboise and, as weird as it may or may not sound: I enjoy mixing framboise with a stout (which my next batch will be) at a ratio of about 1:5. I can't for the life of me remember who initially proposed this concoction to me but it makes for an interesting experience. Definitely not my "drink of choice" but it's fun to have one or two now and again.

In any case, I don't expect to be making a lot of framboise, it was just a feet wetter - not sure what I'll do with 30+ bottles of the stuff, other than use it to not pay $5/10oz bottle at the liquor store (assuming it goes well... I'll let you know in March-ish). I like my beer like I like my comedy: dark and bitter and sometimes dry. I'd like to move to AG (look! I'm already picking up the acronyms, a must for any specialized internet conversation) eventually but will probably continue wetting my feet with few more kits while I collect all the necessary equipment.

From all I've seen and read, this is a great forum full of helpful and funny people. I'm looking forward to sharing some experiences and/or frustrations with you all.

Cheers! :mug:

Welcome Pete!
I made that framboise and was amazed at how well it turned out. My hubby leans toward stouts but the framboise is a fun change. Every lady that tried it liked it a lot.
There are a ton of good stout kits available so you can be like a kid in a candy store trying all the different stouts. Have fun and hope to see you around.

Welcome. About a year ago I hit this site for the first time after getting some long awaited brewing equipment myself. Doesn't take long to get hooked.

I know Carbondale very well...

Don't we all... :drunk:

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone. And an extra huzzah to my fellow Illinoisans. :rockin:

I already feel like a regular: I'm gonna start a batch of EdWort's apfelwein perhaps tomorrow and I'm going to start on my mash tun to have handy once I get a few more brews under my belt. This place is awesome!
