Hey All,

I am trying to get in to kegging since I am tired of bottling. Anyone have a good source to get some kegs to start with? Specifically I am looking for pin lock I think. I got one of them before and want to get a couple more and then the rest of the hardware.

If you can find them used locally it's always cheaper. Search craigslist or post and ad on there. the shipping usualy kills you when you buy online and LHBS usually has a large markup.

I ordered mine from cornykeg.com.

I got a 4-pack pinlock for $64 and I think shipping was around $20. They work great but I wish I would have spent the extra $25 to have them cleaned and orings changed. Doing it myself was a pain in the butt.

That cornykeg.com price for four reconditioned ball locks converted from pin locks is insane! $32.75 delivered (per keg that is). That's cleaned, new rings, new posts, new poppets. Crazy good deal if you ask me.

I just wonder how hard it would be to get poppets for those custom made machined posts though? Anyone know anything about it? Reading a little more shows that PBW will destroy the finish on the powercoating (makes sense) and cause pitting. That sucks...

Ball lock (Pepsi style) used to be more readily available than pin lock, but that is not so much the case now. I have all ball lock kegs (20 of them). I got mine from CHI Company. Their prices, service, and average quality of the used kegs they sell was excellent, IMIO. They are getting a final shipment of 2400 kegs very soon, and when they are gone, it may be harder to find used ball lock kegs.

There's nothing wrong with pin lock kegs either. From what I've read, they tend to be a bit fatter and shorter, by a small margin, than the ball lock kegs. I don't have any experience with them.

Search for "ball lock vs pin lock" on this forum.

Got mine from Beverage Elements off Ebay. Great customer service, cheapest shipped price I could find, and all arrived in great shape with plenty of pressure. Check out their feedback!
