OK, I have a question. For my first batch of beer I used Coopers Australian Ale beer kit and it says it makes 5 imperial gallons and 6 U.S. gallons. All the beginners directions I have read online give instructions for topping off the fermenter to 5 gallons. However I topped off my fermenter at 6 U.S. gallons as instructed by the Coopers beer kit can. Will I have to use more than 3/4 cup sugar when priming my bottles now or are all the instructions I have read online that give instructions for 5 gallons referring to 5 imperial gallons? Sorry if it is a confusing question but I really want this first batch to come out good and I would really appreciate the help. Thanks!

Yes, if at bottling time you have a full 6 US gallons, you should probably up your priming sugar a little bit.

This is a good case of "Relax, don't worry, have a home brew".Sense this is your first brew have one of your favorite commercial beers.
You can add 3/4 cups priming sugar to your batch and you will be fine. If it would make you feel better add a touch more. Just don't go over one cup of corn sugar or you might get exploding bottles. I will guess that when you are finished there will be less than 6 gallons anyway due to beer left in the bottom of your fermenter that is mixed with trub and yeast.
Good luck and enjoy!
