Small rust spot on new stainless pot

Hi all,
I have a brand new pot, used it once 2 months ago, about to use it again and noticed a small, dime size rust spot near the bottom on the side.

If I boil with that will it ruin the beer? Or do you think it will be fine? I have a brew party scheduled in 3 weeks and not sure if I can return it and get a new one on time.

Think I'll be okay?
 
Are your sure it's not beer stone? let's see some pictures? Real 304 stainless can take a beating and not rust.
 
Just buy a canister of Bar Keepers Friend. It is designed for cleaning Stainless Steel and works wonders on it.

Yup. I just pulled my can of it out from under the sink as I prepare to clean up from brew day. Even my wife started using it when she saw my brew kettle. Everything sparkles with that stuff. It's cheap too. I think it was $2 for a large can. Get the powder, not the paste.
 
+1 on Barkeepers Friend. It will clean rust right off.

As I understand it, stainless can rust, though it isn't the stainless that is actually rusting. Rust means that it was contaminated with another metal that does rust. Barkeepers Friend will remove that contamination.

Since it's new, I'd return it, if able. If not, you'll probably be fine using Barkeepers Friend.

When you get new stainless pots it helps if you passivate them with Bar Keeper's Friend and then use it later as needed. It's great stuff!
 
While on the topic of BKF, it also works wonders to remove rust spots on your cutlery and is the best thing I know of to use on a ceramic stove top. Although burnt sugar from boilovers will still require some elbow grease.
 
There are many different types of stainless steel, and some are more "stainless" than others. Regardless, you should not have a rust spot like that on your pot. Use BKF, but if you continue to see rust, you may want to return it.

In the past few years, we have seen a lot of industrial stainless steels that do not meet specifications. Due to supply and cost pressures, some manufacturers have been skimping on expensive metals. It is possible your new pot is a dud. Hope not. Good luck.
 
For the record, Bar Keepers Friend is FANTASTIC!! Thanks to all for the recommendation! I also cleaned my sink with it and it looks brand new.
 
FWIW I use BKF powder on many different household cleaning projects including my BK, and BKF liquid (paste) on my ceramic cooktop.

I'm curious, why not the paste? I picked up the paste one and it works pretty damn good on my kettles. Is there a major difference between using the powdered one over the paste?

EDIT: Nevermind, this has already been answered....
 
If I may add, you may want to passivate your pot with Acid 5, it adds a thin layer to SS, AND makes it extra shiny.
