small batch???

I'm not going to get into what I'm brewing, but it's about the only thing my wife will drink. My question is if I want to brew 2.5 gallons from a 5 gallon recipe, is it as simple as cutting everything in that recipe in half? Might sound silly, but there might be something really odd out there that people might know. I would assume that the boil times would be the same. Anyone have the answer, or small batch brewing in general?

Beer recipes scale very well. What doesn't scale is boil off. You cut the ingredients in half but the water used has to be halved and then another half of the amount you would normally boil off added back.
