I have begun gathering parts for my keezer build so far I just bought an 8.7cu ft. chest freezer from lowes and have purchased the johnson controls tempature control. I am going to build my collar next and would like to drill all the holes for shanks and stain and urethane the the collar but I am not ready to buy all the taps. I have seen some plugs in place of taps, any idea where I can pick some up?

Couldn't resist the deal on the Frigidaire, eh? I just ordered the same one.

I have been waiting for a deal someplace for a while and $298.00 for that size worked for me. My original plan was just 4 taps but with the extra space I think I'm going to put a 10" collar on it and this should give me the room for 8 kegs with two on the bump.

I sold my way-too-big Fridigaire chest freezer to a friend and used some gift cards I had to pay for most of the 8.7ft³ one. I wanted something that was still reasonably small, but would allow for at least 3 cornies and a 6 gallon carboy, so that I can do some proper lagering. Not sure exactly what my end plan is for the build, but having the freezer on-hand will probably get the creative juices flowing.

Like you, I've been nickel-and-diming my way in to this over a period of several months. The freezer is the last big expense that I had, so now it's just hoses, fittings and assembly standing between me and sweet, sweet kegging.

Began building my collar for my 8.7 cubic ft. freezer, I was planning on using 2X10 the dimmensions are 24" x 44". My issue is the wood is yellow pine and is pretty heavy, I'm not sure the hinges on the freezer will be able to handle the weight. I am not going to glue the wood to the freezer I will add a second set of hinges so I can open the freezer top and them lift the collar up to make exchanging kegs easier without shanks in my way. My question is are there any issues using a 1 x 10?
