Collecting supplies & courage for my first batch. Already obsessed and I haven't even started. Brace yourselves for n00b questions!

Welcome to the forums, and I know how it is to be obsessed and not even brewing yet. As far as the questions go just be sure to use the search. New brewer questions have more than likely been ask more than once or twice.

I haven't been there before but I heard its just alright at best. I go to The Witches Brew in Foxboro. He's a small operation but he's got just about everything you need: several kinds of extracts both liquid and dry, maybe 25 kinds of special grains, several types of base malts, I think I counted 30 different kinds of hops there once and Wyeast liquid yeast and several dry yeasts. Plus lots of equipment and wine making supplies as well.

First Extract brew is in in the bucket (a "Pail Ale"?). Feel like I'm on a roller coaster that just left the station....

dh,
Greetings from the other side of Buzzards Bay.
Congrats on your first launch, you'll have your nose in the airlock this evening guaranteed.

I got on that roller coaster myself just after Christmas, and bottling my first batch tonight. I couldn't wait until I tasted my first to brew more, so I have a few brews going now. Time will tell if that was a wise choice.

...and while I'm thinking of it.

I just bought some more brew gear from a place in Westport called Crosby-Baker. They do wholesale, but if you know what you want and call ahead they let us local folks buy right from the warehouse. :mug:

Slainte Declan and welcome! Glad to see a new brewer from my hometown of NB. You'll find brewing a great creative outlet - and the hook will be set deep! I assume you know about Rosa Alley and Pour Farm - my fellow beer advocates back home rave about their tap selections.

I've been up in NH for quite some time now, so I'm not current on the local supply options - but if you can tap Crosby-Baker as Woodneck says, then that's a perfect situation. Also our online supply sponsors are top notch.

What style are you thinking for your first batch?

I-Hop - thanks!

WoodNeck - that's great news about Crosby Baker! My friend made their website and swore that they absolutely don't do retail.... I am so happy to hear otherwise!!! I did, in fact, sniff the airlock this morning to a wonderful surprise. :)

Michaeltrego - Oh, yeah, I know about Rose Alley and Pour Farm. Both have great beer selections! My first batch is a UK Pale Ale and the airlock confirms it! I see a basement full of fermenters in my near future....
