Looking for recommendations on siphons you like. Bunch of options on Amazon etc. Currently using the wand/tube/water method...which I suck at.

Need something better for my 1gal projects.....

Cheers!

I've been using the Fermtech auto siphon for about 7 to 10 years. (Memory?) No problems. Don't soak auto siphons in cleaners or sanitizers for hours or days. This will degrade all the parts. Don't store an auto siphon assembled. This will permanently distort the rubber gasket on the inner cane. They work well if you take care of them.

Great advice. Also, when you need to replace tubing cut it off. If you try to pull it off you’ll break the cane. Also, soaking the end of the tubing in hot water for s bit before installing will make the job much easier.
I have the clamp but have never used it.

I don't leave the tubing attached. Makes it too difficult to rinse and put away after drying for safe storage.

I have one, but there are two sizes (at least from our local supplier). The large one doesn't fit into a one gallon carboy. The small one does, just. Its length is such that it just reaches the bottom but you can't use the clip with the one gallon carboy. For transferring from bucket etc the clip is fine.

Apart from that, they are great!

Syphon Auto you must..

Well that explains why my Amazon cheapie failed after the first two uses. Thanks for the tip.

Ordered the mini! Thanks for the feedback & Cheers [emoji111]

This. I store them with a rubber band around them holding the 2 parts together. I also remove the tubing after each use. The clamps are useful for holding the siphon above the lees.

Really. You take it off every time?

I clean both pieces separately. The hard tube goes in a Rubbermaid container. The wand and flexible tubing hangs from the ceiling in my cellar.

7.9gal....I'm digging it. Wanna get couple more.

I just bought 2 of the 30L. Excited about the headspace, spigot, and definitely the handles! Hopefully, I can dump the auto siphon and start doing closed transfers.

Whoa!!
I've used the trusty auto syphon for years. I may have to retire it.
What is this Speidel you speak?
Looking at the 60L for 10 gallon batches.
Love HBT... I was not aware of this product.
It may be my new fermenter. Closed transfer is very nice.

I’ve been doing 15 gallon batches in my spiedel 60L fermentor. Doing closed transfers hooking my CO2 tank to the blow off valve. I use the spiedel spigot for my blowoff and a ss brewtech spigot for transfer. The plastic spiedel spigot has a bleed hole so when I go to hookup the CO2 tank I turn the spiedel valve to off, then attach the tank, run a bit of gas to flush the line then flip the spigot to on and start pushing beer.

How do you do temperature control with these?
I'm trying to figure out how to include a thermowell.

I put the thermowell from SS Brewtech through the lid.
This one: https://www.morebeer.com/products/ss-weldless-thermowell-300-mm.html

Actually I installed two of them because my temp controller doesn't have data logging capability.

I am using this temperature controller:
https://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=671
with the cold side controlling the fridge and the hot side controlling a ceramic heat bulb. Probe 1 from the controller is in the thermowell in the beer and probe 2 from the controller is measuring temperature in the fridge. I got two RC-4 Temperature loggers from Amazon...https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MY9A0G1/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20
which I use to record temperature of the fermenting beer (why I needed second thermowell) and termpearture of the air in the fridge.

Here is data logging results from my current fermentation, a full 16 gallons oatmeal stout:

I have not quite worked out all the bugs. As you can see from the graph something happened on day 1 and the temperature started to climb uncontrolled. I had a blowoff situation and the tube got plugged. Pressure built up and deformed the top of the fermentor.

It held. I'm really not sure how to explain the logger results during day 1. They were both originally sitting on top of the fermentor and fell to the floor of the chamber.

Like I say still working on it.

Nice looking setup!
I like the thermowell freeing up the top access but that one looks a bit short for 10 gallon batches.

I always soak mine overnight in OxiClean, but now I wonder if I've just been lucky. In your experience (or maybe what you've read), is OxiClean bad for overnight soaking?
