Hi there my friend just gave me a couple of primary containers, they don't have a hole it the top for the airlock, he says he just leaves the lidsitting on top and uses the same timeframes as me. I always airlock mine, his beer is excellent and similr to mine?? Could this be a problem I thought o2 killed beer

when a "green beer" starts fermenting it produces lotz and lotz o; co2, which displaces the o2 in the primary. I use a lidless primary w/ a thick plastic square over the top secured twist tie style. The co2 pushes the o2 out. Just dont leave your beer in the primary for a week.
