Shredded rubber in bottom of corny?

I pulled the last glass from a keg of ginger ale today and came up with some small bits of what appears to be black shredded rubber. I'm guessing it came from the handle portion. I've noticed the rubber chime shred slightly as I'm tightening or loosening the posts, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how the shavings would get into the keg itself.

Anyone have any thoughts on this, anyone ever had similar experiences?

I have yet to tear it down for a cleaning, so I'm not sure if I might find more, there was nothing that I could see at the bottom of the keg. I'll post my findings after cleaning it.
