Shows with major character changes that still succeeded?

I think Two and a half Men came out ok without Charlie Sheen. Loved him on the show but it got too weird off set, can't blame them for replacing him.

Most of the TV series I was going to list have already been listed, but...
Nobody mentioned Yogi Bear. Not sure if it counts or not, but Ranger Smith was drawn very differently: sometimes he was short, sometimes nearly double the height, sometimes he had a moustache, sometimes he was clean shaven; but he was always "Ranger Smith."

Now, Dr. Who has got to be one of, if not THE most enduring series with major actor/character changes. Interesting (and certainly convenient) how his personality changes along with his body when he regenerates.

Star Trek (STOS) Originally the Enterprise was commanded by Cpt. Christopher Pike. The character of Mr. Spock was the only one to make the cut & go on to serve with Cpt. Kirk. Leonard Nimoy & Majel Barrett were the only actors to make the cut, tho Barrett played a different character (Nurse Chapel). There were a couple of yeoman characters/actors who came & went, the most memorable was the character of Yeoman Janice Rand (Grace Lee Whitney). There were also a couple of episodes where Chekov was gone & there was another actor (different character) in the navigator's chair.

Mark Lenard played the 1st Romulan seen by humans in 1 episode, then came back to play Spock's father, Sarek in later episodes, films & the 2nd series: STNG.

Guess I'd better wrap this up before it turns into a trekcon.
Regards, GF.

Watched Dr. Who many years ago when the guy with the curly hair played him.

Yogi Bear huh? Man that is some attention to detail. I only remember it from being a kid and didn't notice.

How would you like to work with a guy like Hawkeye? 24/7 this guy would definitely be considered an AHole. I don't watch any repeats. It was a great series in it's time but seems dated to me.

I can agree to that. But what would the show be without a character like that?

I got into a MASH kick a few years ago for several months. That was the first time I really got to see them since they were on in the 70's (right?). I enjoyed it, still put one on if nothing else better on.

I see you quoted me before I could delete my post as off topic. I didn't want the thread to turn into a M*A*S*H* discussion. I would rather see how many people thought that Jill was a total b*tch in Home Improvement.
Just kidding.. Must keep on topic.:D

The Avengers.. Honor Blackman to Diana Rigg Liked them both. Cheers... Coach to Woody. Liked them both.

You kidding.....when things are slow on this miserable lonely shift I look for any activity I can find. :(

8 Simple Rules lasted about 3 years and John Ritter died about halfway through but the show continued. Not the most successful show or very popular show ever but for the main character to die off and not be replace is something.

How about Married with children. Seven saved that show from nothingness

Seriously? That little dweeb almost killed that show. Good thing they got rid of him quickly. But they did replace Steve Rhoades with Jefferson D'arcy and the show went on.

Bewitched. A good chunk of the characters on this show were played by different actors at one time or another (most notably Darrin) while the series didn't even run ten years and was a major success.
