Ya, I love that design. It's exactly what I'll be modeling my kegerator off next time I build one.... I think brewpastor was the original like this? The "alter".

Pardon the crappy cell phone pics but i finally finished this last night in the garage. Moved to its location in the house and plugged in. Holding a nice 38 degrees with the LOVE controller. I "LOVE" those things...

Here is mine. Just put the contact paper on it last night and today. Totally a PITA and you can see the wrinkles/bubbles. But it's in the garage. Next week it will have a couple of Perlick's replacing the faucets on the front. The only big problem is the one tapped keg is almost empty and I'm about a month from having any other beer ready.

How do the hinges hold up in terms of the extra weight? This is the only thing I've been wondering about on my build.

I've got a lot more weight on my hinges than probably anyone else here, but they are holding up just fine so far. I do have to prop it up to keep it open, but it's not a big deal.

The hinges don't even hiccup. I would feel comfortable putting three more taps on it. Seriously, they're that sound.

My Kenmore is swinging over 60 lbs, probably closer to 70 lbs, without complaint.

I really like these designs that feature the wood collar for putting taps in. My only question is this- how airtight is the seal now? Is there anything some of you do to further insulate or create a better seal on these? I want to do this set up and I'm just trying to sniff out any problems there might be.

I took off the original seal that's on the freezer and put it on the bottom of the collar. As for the top of the collar that meets the freezer lid, I sealed that up with some silicone caulk.

I suppose you could always seal the holes you drill for the shanks. But I couldn't think of anything that I could use to do that which wouldn't make it difficult to remove the shanks in the future if I wanted to.

Well, there is always the chance that you'll hit a coolant line while drilling thought the sides. If you are going through the lid, no worries, otherwise a collar is a safe way to go.

You know, if I were to do it over, I'd put my taps closer like you got Bier.

I'd at the very least be able to take advantage of a smaller drip tray.

Thankfully I have two beer-loving dogs that help keep the floor clean from drips.

As I understand it, chest freezers have the coolant running around the entire box, so drilling through the side is VERY tricky.

OK, I'm back for round 2! All my gear is moved over to the new side-by-side and I'm pleased as punch with it!

Dry yeast and washed liquid yeast are both saved in the door, and I can fit a 30pack of High Life on the top shelf with room for 2-6'ers of bottles to spare!!

Now my Hop stash finally has a place to call its' own, and SWMBO isn't missing her precious freezer space!!!!

Great idea having the collar/taps swing up with the door. I bet that makes it a lot easier to move kegs in and out since you don't have to worry about bumping the shanks or tap handles.

On the left is my vintage Pepsi machine that holds 2+ cases of beer. All the parts are original and it's completely functional (it's set to 5 cents, nickles are in the bowl on top)! On the right is my Heaven & hell themed 2 tap kegerator!:rockin:

I found the freezer on craigslist, and while I was doing the conversion at my shop, the boss decided it needed a flame paint job, so here she is!

She's not running yet, the first time I went to actually use her, the frigging compressor died! It had run like a dream for a month empty, but the day I went to put a carboy in, she quit on me.

My refrigeration specialist friend will be swapping out the old one for a brand new unit, I'll ask, but I think when they're gone, they're gone.

The good(?) news is that R-12 cans are on ebay for $25 or $30.
