I think I am ending up with too much liquid at the end of each batch sparge step. The sparging method I am using involves a 15 minute rest after adding the sparge water then I drain a quart and add back to the mash tun 5 or 6 times. I saw on a video that a fellow tilted his mash tun when it came time to drain the fluid from each sparge.

Should I be doing this? Will it give off too much of the runnings?

Thanks for any input you may have...

I always do this. Whether you get "too much" or not is all relative. I usually triple batch sparge and adjust my individual sparge volumes accordingly. Wort left on the bottom of the mash tun is wasted wort and will affect your efficiency. What makes you think that you're ending up with too much? What are your pre-boil and post-boil volumes?
