Orfys Hobgoblin clone in primary for 72 hours now with no activity... it was pitched with dry yeast packet.

Should I repitch another pack or some other yeast? (I dont have any at the moment).

I have one bottle of my hobgoblin that I made 2 months ago... should I make a starter with the bottom 1/4 bottle of that and then pitch it in?

should I just RDWAHAHB?

i just took another look and there is a ring of gunk all around the edge of the surface.... is this kruesen starting? it is very minimal, and i am used to extremely agressive ferments blowing airlocks off after 24 hours and stuff... so this is why I am concerned...

^^^^
Missed this by a minute the first time.

You may have something starting. Watch and smell it carefully the next 24 hours. Did you aerate? What yeast is it and what's the temperature?
!

I aerated it, maybe not enough?
I pitched a coopers gold foil packet of dry yeast...
It is in a very consitent 70 - 72 room.
OG was 1.048 (a bit lower than what i was shooting for)..
I have not taken any further gravity readings.

What was the temp of the wort when you pitched? Also, and i am still new, isn't 70-72 room temp a little high? Wouldn't that mean 78-80 in the primary?

wort was 21c (70f) when pitched...

i dunno if 70 is too high? I make all my beer at that room temp and the others all turned out good...

Take another hydro reading. I would think that would be the quickest way to tell if anything is going on. You may be pleasently surprised

Higher temps in the primary are generated by the yeast during fermentation, so if he's getting no activity its still probably around 70 in the bucket. Pitching temperature might be more important here. EDIT: Although pitching temp looks fine.

Do you still have the dry yeast packet? It wasn't beyond its expiration was it?

I'm still new, and made my first batch a week ago. I asked the same thing and Revvy suggested I leave it. It took 96hrs to start, but once it did, it went like crazy. Maybe their just slow starters.

Okay well I went this morning and opened the lid for a hydro reading.

still looks very light on Kruesen, at least compared to the typical 3 inches of crud I usually see...

but the reading came to 1.014! so ya... very calm fermentation but it is doing it. weird

Is it possible you missed the peak krausen? From those pictures it looks like it was up at least an inch higher than it is now.

See!!! Sometimes we miss the action and think it never started. Trust in your trusty hydrometer.
