Wow, I was actually impressed! Although they got the style wrong, it's actually a very tasty beer!

Just don't buy it thinking you are going to get an IPA.

I'd probably get this over the regular BMC stuff if I couldn't get some craft beer.

yeah i hear its not very ipa'ish.I think people expect ipa's to be over the top.Why did they get the style wrong because its mild? It would be weird to release an ipa if it wasnt in style guidelines, not that i care about guidelines, with ipa's these days its very blurry anyway.
I was somewhat impressed with the wheat pumpkin they had in the fall unexpectedly. It was worth a try and not too bad but i had many better but how can you compare a mild low abv to a imperial like Smashed Pumpkin or others really.
Ill have to at least try this hopefully i get it in a sixer-mixer,pretty shure im not going to buy a sixpack of it,you never know though.

I think I know what an IPA is suppose to be like. Somewhat more bitter/hoppy than an APA at least, right?

The Wheat IPA is more or less a BlueMoon/Shocktop beer, which *may* be more hoppy than the regular Shocktop (Disclaimer: I have not had one since they first came out a few years ago) but it's by no means close to IPA in either bitterness or hop flavor.

Oberon is very noticeably more bitter and hoppy. I'm not sure that Shocktop has to aspire to be an Oberon clone, but I feel that even tough its a decent beer, they couldn't come up with a clever name to distinguish it from the other beers of that type so they defaulted to calling it an IPA in order to trick people into trying it.

Oh,i wasnt saying you dont know what an ipa is.I was wondering why you thought it wasnt .Now that im trying one,its a fail as an ipa but an ok beer.I got a weakmild like almost pale ale and lil hefe like smell almost out of it first opening.Mineral bland aroma,-very slightly floral with citrusy tang and bittering.Dull finish with very light citrus.Seems just like a wheat beer.Maybe a non ipa drinker would consider him/herself an ipa drinker now till they had just a SN pale ale and decided that was too bitter.
I didnt realize how off this is for an ipa that you were talking about until i tried it.It sucks because i give these types of beers a chance and they pull these marketing tricks. No matter, a good beer is a good beer.

Your description is spot on to what I tasted. Tastes like a wheat beer. Nicely citrus and lightly sweet. Good drink, but they are seriously deluded on the style.

Not sure the reasoning unless they think they can fool non craft beer experts into thinking they are drinking an actual IPA. Those folks might be a bit off guard when they try an actual IPA...

Yeah, they fooled me. Grabbed a bottle from Total Wine just to try it. It's not bad but it's not what I expected reading the label. Cascade? I think Bud's American Ale has triple the cascade flavor in it. It's a bit too sweet for my tastes.

Just picked some up today...

I had more of a <meh> response than <wow> but I'd concur that it's OK for a BMC release. I think any one of us could probably do better with this concept at home...
