Shock from heater element

I have a cut on my finger and recieved a slight shock which I think was from my heating element. I tested the water with a voltmeter and got a slight reading, around 30 volts or so. I realized the heating element was not grounded. When i ran a ground wire the voltmeter did not register anything. Would this have solved the problem? Or would it be from a short in the heating element? Thanks

you would have to have a short on the element to get shocked. a good condition element will not shock you. the ground is a good idea, but you pry need to replace that element.

Scary first post. I would not be messing with a heater element in a kettle if I didn't have the knowledge to know whether its grounded or not.

Whoa! No Ground? I'll bet no GFCI either..As was said, don't kill yourself..
