Google has let me down! I'm hoping you guys will know☺

I'm trying to find out how to bend the edges of a 12 inch disk of woven SS mesh so that the resulting shape like a Petri Dish, flat bottom and vertical sides or at least like the filter in a Cafetiere.

If you know how to do it please post it.

Many Thanks. Aamcle

If I was going to do that, I'd make a form that the mesh would sit inside, then I'd work the perimeter of the mesh around the inside of the form to fit. I suspect that would be easier and more effective than trying to bend the mesh around the outside of a form. Either way, you'll end up with triangular "pleats" all the way around...

Cheers!

Not sure the gauge, but I would get some wood, route out the size you want the screen, (plus the screen thickness of course), then cut a circle out the size you want the screen (minus the thickness of the screen). Mark the screen with a pen where the bend with be, then heat with a torch and quench a few times. Next, press the screen.

It probably wont be perfect, but it should work fairly well.

I've done it... make a wood die set. You need a male and female set with barely enough room for the thickness of the mesh.
Start with the mesh too big... the edges will not be round when you're done.
Force the two die halves together with a press or vice.
Cut the excess off and then pull the die halves apart.
I did this for my hop spider.

Thanks Gents.

Cut two disks, clamp them together with the mesh in between, then work around the disks with mallet or hammer working the side as desired, move the clamps to get all round. Then with angle grinder cut the sides to equalise the riser as required.

What the "fartin" one said.........Make a "hammerform".

Depending on the gauge, you can probably cut it with tin snips afterward.

I doubt you will need any heat............
