We have 12 inches of snow, 20 mph winds, and temps below zero here in Nebraska so it's time for a warm drink. We are helping with a baby shower and I thought I would bring some "winter warmer" and recall seeing a post at one time about warming Apfelwein with cinnamon sticks, has anyone done this? If so does it taste ok and how did you do it?

Had some for Thanksgiving--it was pretty young, but it still was good. I heated it gently with some additional brown sugar, cinnamon, and a clove, and poured it into mugs over some honey. It was a nice warmer-upper, although I happened to inhale just as was about to take a sip and the evaporating alcohol cleaned my sinuses all the way to the back of my skull! :D I think if it were aged a bit longer it might have been a little more, shall we say, mellow... I put it back in the cabinet and planning to have some more at Christmas. I think the Vick's Vapo-Rub effect will have lessened somewhat by then... But the taste was delicious!

If you search for it you'll find a lot of threads on it. I'm not sure about warming Apfelwein, because when I was in Germany it was just served as it, but warm apple cider is pretty common in the states. You can add cinnamon, brown sugar, whatever you like. I don't get very crazy with mulled cider, and stick with those two myself.
