i think it's a valid point.

extra stout is the only guinness i'll drink. and definitely not extra cold.

The first beer I've drank a lot is the Guiness they served on tap in an Irish pub in my hometown. I thought it was hard as hell to drink -- very heavy (but very good). I just wasn't able to drink all of my pint. Well, I could if I took two hours... I was 18 back then (5 years go).

Then, two weeks ago, I was at this very pub with friends. I ordered a pint of Guiness, and thought it was actually a little bit watery. Decent, but very thin. I drank it all in 20 minutes, and I was all "WTF!?".

Seems like my perceptions changed since then...

I think it's a valid point too. These trolling accusations are trolling in themselves.

It's blatant marketing to those who don't care what they drink as long as it's ice cold. Sure, it's a personal choice to drink whatever you want, and at what temp, but Guinness has always got my back up with their pandering.

I have nothing to add to this thread other than I laugh when people think Guiness is a "high alcohol" beer because it's "dark."

So, Guinness is officially dark and thick? Hmm that rhymes with, AND describes Michael Vick!

Guinness supports dog fights! the bastards!

It could be a valid point...if the original poster left any room for discussion whatsoever in the original post, or if he posted in the mindless mumblings forum.

I have seen at least 8-9 of these posts from the same author...the thread always progresses the same way:

1.
A. Posts a rant with no point except to try and win cool points with beer aficionados OR
B. Asks a question with an answer already in mind

2.
A. People find flaws in his rants or logic
B. People give an answer he doesn't agree with

3.
A and B. Somewhat civil debate takes place

4.
A and B. Increased evidence posted against views in rant/logic/why the answer he was looking for isnt the correct answer.

5.
A and B. OP STARTS TYPING IN ALL CAPS SAYING HE HAS NO EMOTION INVESTED IN THE DEBATE AND THAT HE IS LAUGHING AT ANGRY PEOPLE SINCE HE APPARENTLY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE TOPIC.

6. OP continues to dig himself into hole, thread dies or mods shut it down

I can post those 8 + examples if you wish...each thread is the same

Isn't Guinness the biggest by volume beer made in the world? It would seem they are doing something right. I like it and I like it COLD!

No I think Bud ICE has them beat, by volume.:drunk:

Mcdonalds is pretty widespread too, if I say that their burgers are terrible, does that offend you?

Germelli, what you described is normal forum procedure. Sure , it coulda been in a different section.

Point 3 creased me up though!

"3. A and B. Somewhat civil debate takes place"

;)

PLEASE!! I HAVE NO EMOTIONS AT ALL!!!!! STOP BEING MEAN!!!! I WAS BORN WITH NO EMOTIONS!!!!AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Please post that! You have to now....... 8? I thought there were at least 42.

No less than 8, OK? That would make my plan for world domination complete.

*thanks invisible, I was about to get all emotional......;)*

Than can I ask what was the point of posting this under the discussion board? Were you looking for a quick "Yay man I agree with you!"? (AKA attention/cool points)

(here comes his defense mechanism...apathy)

If you put your heart and soul into crafting a great grilled steak, would you suggest "serve it ice cold" just because the BMC crowd likes their steak "cold filtered"...?

If you could sell more of them that way because people liked cold steak - yep.

If you painted your masterpiece, would you suggest people "view it through jello" just because that seems to be the latest fad?

If people liked it that way, why not?

I like my Terminator clone pretty cold - but if other people like it warm, good for them.

If you could sell more of them that way because people liked cold steak - yep.

But that's kinda the whole point. They are compromising their integrity by pandering to the existing market of cold beer drinkers with little regard to their product. Of course everyone will drink it at whatever temp they like, it's a free country after all.

I'm sure there would be an extraordinary fuss if German lager bottles carried advertising to drink the beer warm.

I'm not a huge fan of Guinness anyway, but aside from my tastes I do find their marketing just as questionable as any BMC with their twirly bottles and flavour-lock lids.

We are all allowed to have our opinions, no matter how they may differ with anyone else's.

Honestly, I thought that there would be people surprised to learn about this little advice on the label. I thought DISCUSSION would ensue.

(I'm not a frequent guinnesser remember, I'm glad I never knew this was on their crappy label)

Let me make my stand clear.

If you really care about your work, and then recommend that people use it in a manner that will detract from it's quality, just to make money, that is your choice, but if you do.......

YOU JUST SOLD THE **** OUT.

What did they sell out from? Being super successful? I mean is Guinness punk rock or something?

OR

The brewer could have intentionally included just enough roasted grain to get the character intended WHILE IT"S ******* COLD!

YRMV, but while myu tastebuds aren't as sensitive with cold drinks, they don't shut off either.

I have had room temp Guiness. Blech. It's like eating roasted malt.

Am I compromising my integrity by drinking my Terminator clone cold? I mean, it may not be "correct" but I like it that way. I guess I don't see that as bad, even if I recommend someone else try it that way.

I'm sure there would be an extraordinary fuss if German lager bottles carried advertising to drink the beer warm.

Probably; and there would have been an extraordinary fuss 20 years ago if any microbrewery in the US suggested that the beer should be served _cool_ instead of cold. But the fact that both would create a fuss isn't a reason to not do it if the brewer thinks that's how people will like it.

Hmm. If someone makes winemaking equipment, and someone here decides it's usable for brewing as well (perhaps not ideal, but cheap and effective) and that manufacturer puts something on their website saying "works for brewing beer as well" - are they "selling the **** out?"

How would that detract from the quality or value?

Thanks! Your argument or question makes NO sense.

not really a big fan of their stout warm or cold. it is overrated in the craft beer world like Heineken is overrated by people who don't know what beer is.

Are you deliberately misreading my posts in order to prove a point? You are drinking your own beer at the temp you want to. All I was saying is that Guinness have little pride in their product and are pandering. If it's only about the money, then fine. they can do what they like. I can also choose to think they have little integrity. It's just an opinion, and opinions are like a third nipple we all have one! (We DO all have one? Don't we? Please don't tell me I'm the only one) :)
