Did our second all-grain batch Saturday while the wifes were outta town. (not that i'm married to two women, but my neighbor and i's wife) Turned out quite nicely. We tried some new things too. Used leaf hops, a must if you havent. Clean up so nicely they do. We also used our homemade grain mill, which i think cracked the grain better than our LHBS grain mill. We also used yeast that we recycled out of the bottom of our Christmas ale bottles. (Wyeast 1056) And yes folks it does work, takes some patience, but it does work. It took about 30 hours for the yeast to really take off. Had a funny incident though.. My internet was down most of last week and after 2 trips by the cable guy they were out for a third time on Saturday. Well i guess he was working on the pole outside the house and was done so he walked to the backyard where we were. I have a privacy fence so i hollered at him to come on back. The look on his face when he walked back there was priceless. My neighbor quickly said "We're not making meth, it's beer man." The cable guy said, "I don't care what your making, where is your cable modem." But I think he honestly thought we were making meth for a moment. Great times.

i made a starter about 9 days in advance. we only used yeast from 3 bottles so i wanted to make sure there was plenty. we were about to go to our back up (dried yeast) when it started bubbling. slow at first, but now its about every 2 seconds last i checked. right now im cultivating the wheat strain out of unfiltered Blue Moon Belgian White. i called the brewer today and they told me it was not pasteurized. i hope its not a bottling strain. :) started it sunday and there is a small cake forming at the bottom. the airlock on it just started bubbling about 3 hours ago. they are also sending me a free t-shirt :)

Well, if you here helicopters and a bunch of red and blue lights outside... don't be suprised. :)

My neighbor across the street is a retored RCMP. I brew just outside the side door so everyone on the street sees me stirring a large pot overe a loud burner... I'm just no he's sitting there with binoculars. He's a nice guy though. Just a bit ex cop nosey. One of these days I'll offer him a homebrew.

it really looks suspicious if you have a carboy outside as well filled with BTF and your wort chiller as well. meth city look alike.
